Soxhlet extraction instruments
Soxhlet extraction is exhaustive and rugged and the principle remains as the mostly used and regulatorily demanded method for many sample matrices. We offer quick and compliant true Soxhlet with the cost-efficient FatExtractor E-500 or E-800. This method obliterates the need for time-consuming validation of other extraction methods deviating from the standard, while guaranteeing the most accurate analytical performance possible. Because of its reliability, Soxhlet extraction is also used as a reference method for NIR calibrations.

The FatExtractor E-500 delivers reference fat and oil determination using classical solvent extraction techniques. Six sample positions and interchangeable glass assemblies let each variant target the most appropriate extraction method — Soxhlet, Hot Extraction (Randall) or Continuous Extraction (Twisselmann) — for reproducible, official-method-compliant results. Individual level sensors, integrated solvent recovery and a compact bench footprint make the E-500 the standard tool for food, feed and dairy fat analysis.
Key specifications:
• Three extraction methods: Soxhlet, Hot Extraction (Randall), Continuous Extraction (Twisselmann)
• Six parallel sample positions for high productivity
• Standard sample glass tube: 65 mL; expanded LSV version for low-fat samples
• Individual level sensors for optimized cycle turnaround and solvent monitoring
• Integrated solvent recovery with detachable collection bottle
• Compatible with common solvents: petroleum ether, hexane, chloroform
• Modular design allows switching between extraction methods on the same platform
Available models:
• E-500 SOX — classical Soxhlet extraction
• E-500 SOX ER — Soxhlet with expanded sample range
• E-500 HE — Hot Extraction (Randall) for fast throughput
• E-500 ECE — Continuous Extraction (Twisselmann) for sensitive analytes
Applications:
• Total fat determination in food (meat, snacks, bakery, chocolate)
• Fat content in feed and pet food
• Milk and dairy fat determination after acid hydrolysis
• Reference method for NIR spectroscopy calibration
• Oilseed and grain fat/oil content analysis

The UniversalExtractor E-800 combines up to five classical solvent extraction methods on a single platform, giving laboratories full flexibility for demanding environmental, contaminant and residue analysis. Six independent extraction positions allow parallel operation of different methods, while integrated high-performance condensers and analyte-protection sensors safeguard even volatile solvents and heat-sensitive compounds. Fully inert construction eliminates contamination and memory effects, and efficient vapor capture enables operation outside a fume hood.
Key specifications:
• Five extraction methods: Soxhlet, Soxhlet warm, Hot Extraction, Continuous Flow, Twisselmann
• Six independent extraction positions with individual process control
• Sample volume: 65–130 mL standard; 220 mL Large Sample Volume (LSV) option
• Compatible with water and organic solvents with boiling points below 150 °C
• Solvent recovery greater than 90 %, even for volatile solvents
• Analyte protection sensor prevents beaker dry-out and shields heat-sensitive compounds
• Fully inert materials eliminate contamination and cross-memory effects
• Optional inert gas supply throughout the process protects against oxidation
Applications:
• Environmental analysis: contaminants in soil, sludge, sediment and waste
• Food and feed testing including fat determination and residue extraction
• Pharmaceutical R&D and active-ingredient extraction
• Chemical QC and polymer additive analysis
• Extraction of hydrocarbons, pesticides and PCBs from environmental matrices

The SpeedExtractor E-914 and E-916 perform Pressurized Solvent Extraction (PSE) with true parallel processing, delivering results up to six times faster than other PSE instruments and dramatically shorter than classical Soxhlet. Elevated temperature and pressure accelerate solvent–matrix interactions while integrated seal-and-vent control keeps the workflow safe and reproducible. Full compatibility with BUCHI parallel evaporators (Multivapor and SyncorePlus Analyst) enables an efficient extraction-to-concentration workflow with minimum manual transfer.
Key specifications:
• Extraction method: Pressurized Solvent Extraction (PSE)
• Temperature range: 30–200 °C
• Pressure range: 50–150 bar
• Throughput: up to 96 samples in an 8-hour shift
• Up to six times faster than other PSE instruments due to parallel extraction
• Full compatibility with Multivapor and SyncorePlus Analyst parallel evaporators
Available models:
• SpeedExtractor E-914 — 4 sample positions with 10, 20, 40, 80 and 120 mL cells for larger sample sizes
• SpeedExtractor E-916 — 6 sample positions with 10, 20 and 40 mL cells for maximum throughput
• SpeedExtractor E-916 XL — 6 sample positions with 60 mL cell volume
Applications:
• Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), PAHs, PCBs and dioxins from environmental samples
• Pesticide residues in food, feed and agricultural samples
• Total fat and lipid determination in food and feed
• Active ingredients from natural products and pharmaceuticals
• Additive and residue analysis in polymers and chemical materials
